Here’s a new commission that I’ll be starting soon. The customer wanted a semi-hollow body guitar with a Fender floating trem and Rickenbacker pickups. Sort of a cross between a Fender and a Rick. He liked my Starblaster design, so we’re going with it!

At some point in time I decided that I was never going to be able to faithfully reproduce a Fender Starcaster, without having a real one in my hands to clone. So I threw that whole idea to the wind and started tweaking my drawings until I came up with something new that I liked. That idea became what I now call the Starblaster.

I was pretty motivated to get this design started, because I managed to score an original Fender Wide Range Humbucker for a steal.

I decided to keep the prototype simple. Solid body, single volume and tone, rear-rout the electronics and just fake the ƒ-holes. The body blank that I started with had this amazing knot on the back, that I cut as much away as I could with the tummy cut.

Consequently, the finished body has insane contours.

Like so many of my other guitars, this one awaits unfinished while I catch up on my commissions. But I’ll update this post when some more progress happens on this one.
