Matt Houar’s Semi-Hollow Gunslinger

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Matt Houar is a good friend of mine.  He plays guitar and synths and does vocals for the Chico, California-based electronic rock duo Team Shark Week.
The body is made from a five-piece Swamp Ash back with a two-piece slip-matched Maple top.  It has hollow “wings” like any Thinline.  The neck is Hard Rock Maple with [...]

Customer Pics Part 1

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I thought I would share a few customer pics of guitars that feature my work.
Here’s one of my favorites, I made the body and pickguard and the customer finished it and added the parts/electronics/etc.:

Another body and pickguard by me, and the rest of the work by the customer:

The Starblaster Prototype

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

At some point in time I decided that I was never going to be able to faithfully reproduce a Fender Starcaster, without having a real one in my hands to clone.  So I threw that whole idea to the wind and started tweaking my drawings until I came up with something new that I liked. [...]

Jazzimacaster

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Here is a fun one! I’m building this guitar for Joseph Demaree of the Portland, OR-based band The Unit Breed. Joe is an incredible artist and a dear friend of mine. He actually helped considerably with the design of this one, including the stubby upper cutaway. I thought it looked kind of like a cross [...]

JMDLX

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

The JMDLX is essentially a cross between a Jazzmaster and a Telecaster Deluxe. I was asked with help designing the pickguard and it became so popular that I’ve since made three of these.
