On Finishing
My finishes aren’t perfect. That probably goes without saying, but I’m putting it out there. They might look perfect in photographs, and to me, that’s good enough. But if you hold one of my guitars up close and personal, and you really get nit-picky about the finish you’ll probably see that it’s got some flaws. It might have some room for improvement. No finish I do, even at its best will be free of fine swirl scratches, at least for now. Those scratches might only be visible only in the most critical of lights, but they’re there. And still, I’m proud of the finishes I do. They’re thin finishes and they look good in pictures and on stage, where it counts. I’m always working hard to improve everything about my guitars, and I feel like I can confidently say that someday I will be doing finishes that look like “factory” perfect finishes. But for now, I feel like the finishes I do are awesome, and worth what I charge for them.

I think minor flaws add character to hand-made work.
